Membrane separation industrialized today is applying dense polymer and the type of applicable gas is therefore restricted. Selectivity of separation is not so high enough while it is depending on the sorts of gas composition. There is no experience applied in a large scale plant and it is understopod that membrane separation is used only in small scale plant at this moment.

Cynara membrane systems of Schlunberger operate on the basis of selective permeation of CO2 and H2S from hydrocarbons. Air Liquide Advanced Separations ("ALaS") has options for selective permeation of CO2, i.e. MEDAL membrane or PEEK-Sep S-Guard membrane, or of H2S, i.e. PEEK-Sep P-Guard membrane, respectively while Separex membrane of UOP.

By the way, H2 separation membranes are often used in syngas related processes, and Prism membrane separator of Air Product is renouned followed by several others such as Ube's membrane and so on.
